Old school publishing

There is this nice cafe in the Dominion Post building in Boulcott Street Wellington. The coffee is very good, and I would recommend their Cappuccinos. The shop was recently re-branded and the decor changed from an aged look, to something modern and inviting. While placing my order I noticed these two old school typewriters in the window. I checked to make sure I have permission to shoot these first and I am pretty pleased with the results since I did not have any decent lighting or tripod.

Rooftop plumbing

This image was taken at ground level of a building with this fascinating rusty old chimney pipe and a mish-mash of plumbing to its side. I just knew it would make for a good photo. See if you can spot the  pigeon sitting in the shade.

Two wheels and rusty

By now you should know me and my liking of anything rusty. During a lunch time stroll I passed some motorbikes parked under a tree. This rusty old bike stood out like a sore thumb. From the angle I needed to take the photo, I could see the background was way too busy. To make sure the background was nicely out of focus, I selected a long zoom range as well as a large aperture. Problem solved!

Party Window

This was a tricky shot. With it I was trying to marry two opposites. The well lit window with the buildings behind me reflected in the window, with the darkly lit interior or the restaurant inside. To make this shot, I set my camera to take three bracketed shots, 2 stop under exposed, one at normal exposure, and the last at 2 shots over exposed. The resulting three images were merged in software to get the image below.

Trentham Tree

The weather was fantastic on the day, and after going to a local RC helicopter meet (no I do not have a RC), I took the kids to the Trentham park for some fun. While there I saw this amazing tree. I've also tried to take some vertical panoramas of the tree, but thus far my Adobe CS5 efforts have not been acceptable. So in the mean time, here is what I have for you to enjoy.

Beach bridge

A long walkway over a little stream some seagulls were taking a dip in. Zoom right out on the Tamron to make sure everything is in focus. I will make sure to go back to this spot but hopefully at a time when the light will be less harsh.

Old pickup

I just love this beautiful old Ford truck. I was initially a bit disappointed at the low vantage point but it turned into a good photo at the end.
